VETERINARY SURGEON (posted 21.2.25)

Two Rivers Veterinary Practice is looking for an additional full-time experienced vet from summer 2025, as we move into our brand new premises in Peebles. The successful applicant will be confident with all small animal consults, and routine and emergency surgery in a first opinion setting. Someone who enjoys all aspects of mixed practice would be ideal, but we are happy to hear from vets who are looking for small animal work only. An interest in small animal medicine, imaging, and/or a preference for surgical cases could fit with our current team. Certificate holders, or those interested in studying for a certificate, are very welcome to apply.

We would also be keen to discuss the possibility of a clinical lead position for the right person, to help us explore the opportunities created by the move to our fabulous new building, and to help develop our lovely Peebles team.

The successful applicant will have excellent communication with a strong focus on client service, and the ability to quickly develop positive relationships with clients and colleagues alike. Two Rivers Vets still considers itself a small friendly practice despite recent growth, and we are very proudly independant. While we continually look to improve our clinical standards and services, we also remain down to earth, offering sensible advice and realistic and affordable options for our loyal client base.

We cover our own out-of-hours, and participation in our 1 in 6 on-call rota would be required. Although the practice workload is approx 80% small animal, the successful applicant would ideally have some experience with horses and farm animals and so able to take a full share of this rota. Back up could be provided for equine and farm work out-of-hours.

What we offer:

  • full time 4.5 days (37.5 hours) per week, part time hours may be considered

  • full time salary range £46-60K (including payments for nights on call and call-outs)

  • 1 in 6 out-of-hours rota for nights and weekends (with 2 full days off after a weekend on call)

  • 30 days annual leave (increasing to 35 days with long service) including bank holidays

  • autoenrolment pension scheme with 4% employer contribution (increasing to 5% after 12 months if you wish)

  • private health insurance with Vitality after 6 months

  • enhanced maternity and sick pay policies (increasing benefit with long service)

  • RVCS, VDS and one other membership paid eg BSAVA, BVA, BEVA, BVCA

  • healthy CPD budget by negotiation up to and including funding a certificate

Our nursing and reception teams are fully staffed at the moment, but please email
fiona.black@tworiversvets.co.uk if you’d like to send a CV, as we are always interested in hearing from people who might be a perfect fit for the practice.
